Brain-eating amoeba

Naegleria fowleri, colloquially known as the “brain-eating amoeba“, is a species of the genusNaegleria, belonging to the phylumPercolozoa, which is technically not classified as true amoeba, but a shapeshifting amoeboflagellate excavate. It is a free-living, bacteria-eating microorganism that can be pathogenic, causing an extremely rare fulminant (sudden and severe) and fatal brain infection called naegleriasis, also known as primary amoebic meningoencephalitis.

What is smiling depression?

According to a paper from the World Health Organization (WHO)Trusted Source, smiling depression presents with antithetical (conflicting) symptoms to those of classic depression. This may complicate the process of diagnosis.Usually, depression is associated with sadness, lethargy, and despair.

Smiling depression is a term for someone living with depression on the inside while appearing perfectly happy or content on the outside. Their public life is usually normal or perfect. The common symptoms of smiling depression are feelings of anxiety, fear, anger, fatigue, irritability, hopelessness,  despair etc.The smile and external façade is a defense mechanism, an attempt to hide their true feelings.

 Talk therapy, meditation and physical activity have  been shown to have tremendous mental health benefits.

सबों ने यह गाना सुना होगा – तुम इतना जो मुस्कुरा रहे हो?  पर शायद हीं जानते होगें कि  ऐसा डिप्रेशन में भी हो सकता। ऐसे में जाने या अनजाने लोग अपनी तकलीफ मुस्कुराह के पीछे छुपातें हैं। क्योंकि मानसिक समस्याअों को आज भी स्टिगमा माना जाता है।

विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्लूएचओ) ट्रस्टेड सोर्स के एक पेपर के अनुसार, ऐसे डिप्रेशन,  क्लासिक डिप्रेशन की तुलना में एंटीटेटिकल (परस्पर विरोधी) लक्षण दिखाते हैं । जिससे यह परेशानी  जटिल बन जाता है। अक्सर बहुत से लोग यह समझ भी नहीं पातें हैं कि वे उदास हैं या डिप्रेशन में हैं।

स्माइलिंग डिप्रेशन या अवसाद – ऐसे व्यक्ति  बाहर से पूरी तरह खुश या संतुष्ट दिखाई देतें हैं। उनका जीवन बाहर से सामान्य या सही दिखता है।  लेकिन उनमें भी डिप्रेशन जैसी समस्याएँ अौर लक्षण रहतें हैं, जैसे उदास रहना, भूख नहीं लगना, वजन संबंधी परेशानी, नींद में बदलाव, थकान आदि। विशेष बात यह है कि  ऐसे लोग सक्रिय,  खुशमिजाज, आशावादी, और आम तौर पर खुश दिखतें हैं। क्योंकि अवसाद के लक्षण दिखाना इन्हें कमजोरी दिखाने जैसा लगता है।

ऐसे लोगों को किसी भरोसेमंद  घनिष्ट दोस्त या परिवार के सदस्य से खुल कर बातें करना फायदेमंद हो सकता है। मानसिक स्वास्थ्य चिकित्सकमनोचिकित्सक की सहायताटॉक थेरेपी  आदि से भी समस्या सुलझाई जा सकती हैं।
