गुवाहाटी का एक नायाब स्कूल अद्भुत काम कर रहा है। यहाँ अक्षर स्कूल प्लास्टिक के कचरे को स्कूल फीस के रूप में लेता है अौर बच्चों से प्लास्टिक नहीं जलाने का संकल्प करवाता है। स्कूल के छात्र न केवल किताबों से भरे बैग लेकर आते हैं, बल्कि वे स्कूल फीस के रूप में पॉलिथीन से भरे प्लास्टिक भी लाते हैं। इस प्लास्टिक से रचनात्मक कार्य करवाया जाता है।
साथ हीं अक्षर स्कूल में पढ़ने वाले बड़े बच्चों को वहाँ के छोटे बच्चों को पढ़ाने के लिए भी प्रशिक्षित किया जाता है। इसके लिए उन्हें धन भी दिया जाता है। जिससे उन्हें स्कूल न छोड़ने का प्रोत्साहन मिलता है। माजिन मुख्तार और परमिता सरमा ने 2016 में समाज के दलित वर्ग की मदद करने और प्रदूषण को नियंत्रित करने के उद्देश्य से स्कूल खोला था।
