Sharing a list of books that have helped me and other fibromyalgia and chronic pain survivors. I shall be sharing reviews of these books, and my own experience of working with them as separate stories. I shall also be adding new lists.

In the meantime I have linked each book to its Goodreads page and urge you to take a good look at readers’ response to these books.

Book List #1

Healing Back Pain by John Sarno

You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay

Molecules of Emotion by Candace Pert

Dynamic Laws of Healing by Catherine Ponder

Freedom from Fibromyalgia by Nancy Selfridge

The right books will provide knowledge, courage and companionship on your fibromyalgia journey

How to Work With Books in List #1:

Sequence: Work with books in a sequential order. Working with multiple books simultaneously has not proved effective for me.

Suitability: You are unique and so is your set of fibromyalgia symptoms. Working with certain books will prove more effective for you than with others. Look long and hard at their Goodreads and Amazon review and try to match your symptoms with the ones a particular book claims to help with.

Judgement: Try and answer for yourself: Do you believe in(i) the mind-body connection, or (ii) solid scientific facts explaining the physiology of fibromyalgia, or (iii) a book with worksheets and a clear path. Now examine each book’s Goodreads and Amazon reviews carefully to find the ones most in line with your belief system. Start there.

Book Review: Review in Perspective of Veils, Halos & Shackles

Veils, Halos & Shackles is a great anthology of international feminist poetry edited by Charles Fishman and Smita Sahay. The book was conceived in response to the horrific rape and manslaughter of Jyoti Singh Pandey in Delhi and to the unprecedented public protest that followed it.
Congratulations to Charles and my daughter Smita Sahay.
Thank you, Shikhandin and Kitaab journal for this wonderful review.

Five years ago, in January 2013, Charles Ades Fishman and Smita Sahay conceived of Veils, Halos & Shackles, dedicated to ‘Jyoti Singh Pandey, Nadia Anjuman and the uncountable number of other women and girls who have been victims of gender violence’.

This is a two-part feature consisting of the book review and an interview with Charles Fishman and Smita Sahay. Today we carry the review to be followed by the interview tomorrow.
