फारसी कवि उमर खय्याम की रूबैयात जीवन की संक्षिप्तता अौर अल्प अस्तित्व को दर्शाता है । कवि के लिए, जीवन एक शाश्वत वर्तमान है, जो अतीत और भविष्य दोनों से परे है।
इस जीवन के बाद के जीवन के सत्य को जानने की लालसा में
अपने अदृश्य आत्मा…..अंतरात्मा को टटोला।
अन्त:मन से जवाब मिला-
स्वर्ग-नर्क, जन्नत-दोजख सब यही हैं, हमारे अंदर है
I sent my Soul through the Invisible,
Some letter of that After-life to spell:
And by and by my Soul return’d to me,
And answer’d: ‘I Myself am Heav’n and Hell
