Psycho+ Neuro+ Immunology = (PNI) Psychoneuroimmunology is a fast growing field. It studies the relationship between our CNS – the central nervous system and our immune system. Now, its clearly found that physical and emotional stress can have a serious effect on our immune system.

The effects of stress on the immune system  – Researches show that  under normal circumstances, our body secretes hormones to an infection or injury to help destroy germs or to repair body tissues. But In the condition of physically or emotional stress, our body releases certain hormones which negatively impacts our immune system. These hormones can bind to specific receptors and signal the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines*. it is evident that stress creates an internal or external force that threatens to disrupt the homeostatic balance of our body. Conversely, good mental health plays an important role in strengthening our immune system.

*(A cytokine is a small protein that is released by cells, especially those in our immune system. There are many types of cytokines, but the ones that are generally stimulated by stress are called pro-inflammatory cytokinesą„¤ ).
