Both parents affect your personality, but rejection by one parent could be more critical for long-term development.
“In our half-century of international research, we’ve not found any other class of experience that has as strong and consistent effect on personality and personality development as does the experience of rejection, especially by parents in childhood.

An important subject for sure. However in my opinion, we still have time here in our society for such issues to be relevant! Parenting in India is still very different from the West! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks ,
This study is important for new parents. Apart from rejection, expression of feeling is also needed.
We may be good parents but I believe , expression of love is equally important . We rarely say to ours kids/ teenagers/ grown ups – I love you/ you are special……
We think it’s already understood. But words do magic sometimes and we must utilise it.

Differ a little bit here. I honestly feel this is changing very rapidly in India too. Parents nowadays do express their love and affection. The major issue today, I feel, is physical touch ! Such expressions are more through electronic medium! These Words are surely magical and effect would be more profound and lasting when said personally with a physical touch!
