Christchurch: comming together as a nation
On Friday afternoon, I was at work. Someone made the comment ‘gosh there are a lot of sirens out there’. Then someone said ‘there has been shootings at a mosque down in Christchurch’. It wasn’t until I got home that night and saw the news that my disbelief turned into tears. Into denial. Into helplessness. Shock. Shame. Hurt.
We were all in denial. We didn’t believe anything like this could happen in New Zealand.
On Friday night and every day since then, our Prime Minister Jacinda Arden does press conferences including answering lots of harrowing questions from journalists. She is visibly disturbed but is authentic, open and a shining example of what we call a wahine toa.
This Maōri term is often difficult to translate into English but my basic understanding is that of a strong woman in leadership with courage, dignity and courage. A wahine toa leads her people…

मृत सागर में कोई डूब नहीं सकता. दुनिया के महासागरों की तुलना में 8 से 9 गुना अधिक नमकीन है.
मृत सागर समुद्र तल से 418 मीटर नीचे, दुनिया का सबसे निचला बिंदु कहा जाने वाला सागर है। इसे खारे पानी की सबसे निचली झील भी कहा जाता है। ६५ किलोमीटर लंबा और १८ किलोमीटर चौड़ा यह सागर अपने उच्च घनत्व के लिए जाना जाता है, जिससे तैराकों का डूबना असंभव होता है।
मृत सागर में मुख्यत: जॉर्डन नदी और अन्य छोटी नदियाँ आकर गिरती हैं।, इसमें जीवाणुओं की ११ जातियाँ पाई जाती हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त मृत सागर में प्रचुर मात्रा में खनिज पाए जाते हैं। ये खनिज पदार्थ वातावरण के साथ मिल कर स्वास्थ्य के लिए लाभदायक वातावरण बनाते हैं। मृत सागर अपनी विलक्षणताओं के लिए कम से कम चौथी सदी से जाना जाता रहा है, जब विशेष नावों द्वारा इसकी सतह से शिलाजीत निकालकर मिस्रवासियों को बेचा जाता था। यह चीजों को सड़ने से बचाने, सुगंधित करने के अलावा अन्य दूसरे कार्यों के उपयोग में आता था। इसके अतिरिक्त मृत सागर के अंदर की गीली मिट्टी को क्लेयोपेट्रा की खूबसूरती के राज से भी जोड़ा जाता है। यहाँ तक कि अरस्तू ने भी इस सागर के भौतिक गुणों का जिक्र किया है। हाल के समय में इस जगह को हेल्थ रिज़ॉर्ट के तौर पर विकसित किया गया है।

The Dead Sea , Sea of Salt is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River.
Its surface and shores are 430.5 metres (1,412 ft) below sea level, Earth’s lowest elevation on land. It is 304 m (997 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With a salinity of 342 g/kg, or 34.2% (in 2011), it is one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water[ – 9.6 times as salty as the ocean – and has a density of 1.24 kg/litre, which makes swimming similar to floating.[8][9] This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which plants and animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea’s main, northern basin is 50 kilometres (31 mi) long and 15 kilometres (9 mi) wide at its widest point
