A woman and her two sons died in Nepal because of a tradition in which women are exiled from their homes and forced to live in huts during menstruation.

Many menstruating women are still forced to leave their homes and take shelter in unhygienic or insecure huts or cow sheds until their cycle ends. The custom — called “Chhaupadi” — continues in many parts of the majority Hindu Himalayan country, especially in the western hills.

      1. Thank you Rekha. I just started to read a book written by Anita Nair, have you heard of her? The title is ” Ladies coupe”, you might check it out. It’s really interesting, an Indian woman who get’s a one way ticket to the town of Kanyakumari, meeting other women on the train and learning about their stories of life.

        I would like to share my experience with you . I met, interviews and collected data from 400 Indian EDUCATED women for my research work based of them. Every one has a story and mostly pathetic one. But they were not interested in sharing it . So I am sitting on this treasure of mine .

        I have written some of the stories in hindi as i am more comfortable writing in my mother tongue.

    1. It’s followed in India too , of course in some families and in slightly refined way.
      See the irony- if a girl bleeds, she has to suffer a lot and if don’t bleed she ‘ll be rejected .
