Psychological abuse

Psychological abuse is also called emotional abuse, is a form of abuse, characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another person to behavior that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder. It is often associated with situations of power imbalance in abusive relationships, and may include bullying, gaslighting, and abuse in the workplace. It also may be perpetrated by persons conducting torture, other violence, acute or prolonged human rights abuse, particularly without legal redress such as detention without trial, false accusations, false convictions and extreme defamation such as where perpetrated by state and media.One definition of emotional abuse is: “any act including confinement, isolation, verbal assault, humiliation, intimidation, infantilization, or any other treatment which may diminish the sense of identity, dignity, and self-worth.”1Emotional abuse is also known as psychological abuse or as “chronic verbal aggression” by researchers. People who suffer from emotional abuse tend to have very low self-esteem, show personality changes (such as becoming withdrawn) and may even become depressed, anxious or suicidal.Another meaningful definitions of emotional abuse. “Emotional abuse is any kind of abuse that is emotional rather than physical in nature. It can include anything from verbal abuse and constant criticism to more subtle tactics such as intimidation, manipulation, and refusal to ever be pleased. Emotional abuse can take many forms. Three general patterns of abusive behavior include aggressing, denying, and minimizing”

Signs and Symptoms          

blaming of the victim , abuse,  Yelling or swearing ,  insults, mocking, mostly using negative statements for the victim, Threats and intimidation, Ignoring or excluding, Isolating, trying to tarnish the image of the victim , Humiliating, Denial 

Prevention

Emotional abuse may take place  any where such as – Family, work place or In intimate relationship. Recognition of abuse is the first step to prevention. It is often difficult for abuse victims to acknowledge their situation and to seek help. They may go for professional help.

There are non-profit organizations which provide support and prevention services, such as the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men & Women (in the USA, operated by staff and trained volunteers to offer information and crisis intervention to victims of domestic violence.

        Actually emotionally abuse people may be easily gas lighted/ emotional misuse .
